Reports on the death of the laser printer are premature, to say the least.

Advances in laser technology are propelling it into the lead when it comes to print quality, cost-effectiveness and sustainability, among other benefits.

Alet Pelser, Brother Product Manager at Mustek, points out that laser printing offers a host of advantages. “Year on year we’ve seen a positive growth in colour laser printers. Laser printers offer faster print speeds than ink jet technology, making it the ideal technology for busy offices.”

Because laser printers are designed for high workloads, they offer more reliability and durability without compromising on colour quality, she explains. “The initial start-up cost for laser might be more expensive than inkjet printers but laser printers’ toner yields are much higher than ink jet cartridge yields, offering the user a more cost-effective solution by reducing their CPP (cost per page) and CTO (cost to own).

“And today’s printer technologies are so advanced that most printers can be set-up from the interactive touchscreen on the printer. And, with built-in fleet monitoring software, the IT team can easily monitor the health of their printer fleet, ensuring better productivity by reducing down-time.”

Brother International, a leader in home and business IT peripherals, has released a new series of colour laser printers and multi-function centres that are tailor-made for high volume workgroups, growing businesses and enterprise level organisations.

The new Business Colour Laser Series, featuring the HL-L9430CDN colour laser printer and the MFC-L9630CDN multifunction centre, highlights exceptional performance, durability and efficiency.

The two new models deliver automatic two-sided colour and monochrome printing of up to 40 pages per minute with outstanding accuracy of sharp text and crisp graphics.

While both HL-L9430CDN and MFC-L9360CDN can easily facilitate higher volume print jobs with additional paper trays, the MFC-L9360CDN adds all-in-one versatility with print, copy, scan and fax functions for everyday office tasks.

The new range offers improvements in robustness, running costs, parts life, and a massive increase in print volume capability. Indeed, with the best toner and drum yield to date, and ease of use, customers can expect higher productivity in demanding print environments plus the best colour laser glossy print quality in Brother’s history.

“The new range is a cut above the rest with it’s very intuitive interface,” Pelser says. “It offers the fastest print speed in its class with high-quality colour printouts by introducing twin laser technology, and a highly competitive cost per page with the high yield replacement toner offering of 15 000 for black, and 12 000 for colour.”

An innovative new feature allows users to suspend a print job to make a quick copy, so there is zero wait times for copy jobs. Other features include the highest two-sided scan speeds in its class, with improved image quality; an expandable memory option via the addition of a USB drive; modular design with a wide range of accessories; and flexible paper handling with additional paper input options.

The range is ideal for busy offices, offering simple third-party integration with Kofax, Ysoft, FollowMe, and more.

“The range also offers eco-friendly features like Responsible reminders, friendly PC pop-ups that advise when your print is complete and offering secure print release, ensuring that only the jobs you need are printed.”

Scalability – Dedicated to be “at your side” for today and tomorrow, Brother’s new printers were developed with an understanding of ever-changing challenges in business environments. Brother’s Colour Laser Series offers the flexibility of being able to scale up while offering a reliable, robust and secure solution.

Security – A host of hardware and software security applications from Brother helps users protect what matters in business. Secure Print, Active Directory and Security Function Lock 3.0 lets users limit and control usage access and functionality available for authorised users or groups. IP Security (IPSec) establishes end-to-end security and privacy by maintaining secure tunnels and encrypting all data carried over the network.

Management – Through a printer management dashboard, users gain greater insights to prevent device downtime, monitor print supplies and anticipate supply replacements. Brother Advanced Solutions, an add-on function requiring activation and subscription, comprise Custom UI, Barcode Utility, Secure Print+, Advanced Secure Print, Request Help and Order Supplies. Businesses equipped with Brother Advanced Solutions enjoy the benefits of added authenticated printing, automated filing, technical support and easy one-touch request for toner/drum replacements.

Sustainability

Pelser says that all Brother products delivered to customers worldwide have the latest energy-saving technologies designed to reduce their impact on the global environment, from development and design to manufacturing, transportation, and recycling.

Brother is generating various technological innovations and new services through this process.

Low Energy Standby technology achieves a significant reduction in standby power consumption. The key to its design lies in disrupting the flow of electricity inside the device when it is off.

Brother is also working to lower power consumption when devices are powered on to reduce CO2 emissions and combat climate change. Brother is committed to contributing to creating a sustainable society and will continue to take on this challenge. Reducing electricity usage is crucial in reducing CO2 emissions.

Local initiatives

As a socially responsible organisation, Brother International South Africa proudly supports the No Ocean Waste initiative. Through its efforts, the team actively engaged in a clean-up campaign, picking up rubbish and waste along the streets of Tshwane.

Ocean pollution is a critical environmental challenge that poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems and the overall health of our planet. Through this initiative, Brother International South Africa sought to highlight the importance of responsible waste management and the impact of individual actions on the well-being of our oceans.

Brother always takes responsibility, acts respectfully, and tries to make a positive difference. Brother Earth is Brother’s attitude and commitment to play a part in building a society with sustainable development.

New Brother laser printers and MFPs have it all

The new Brother  HL-L9430CDN colour laser printer and the MFC-L9630CDN multifunction centre offer a host of features and benefits:

  • Advanced paper handling – Users can print on a specific paper size by using the multi-function tray for thicker or odd-sized paper. For high volume jobs, both HL-L9430CDN and MFC-L9360CDN provide expandable paper tray options, giving users the ability to print up to 520 additional pages with a lower tray (2 x 520 trays capable) or up to 2 080 sheets with the optional tower tray. The HL-L9430CDN can be further fitted with MX-4000 Mailbox for easy print output allocation to specific users or groups for even greater control.
  • Lower cost of colour printing – Super high-yield toners cartridges are designed to reduce the time spent on replacing them – with less impact on the environment. Expect print outputs of approximately 12 000 pages for colour and 15 000 pages for mono using super high-yield toner cartridges.
  • All-round speedy performance – Count on improved, glossier colour quality with vivid hues and sharp text. The first printout takes less than 10 seconds, and the devices offer automatic two-sided printing. The MFC-L9360CDN delivers fast scans speeds of 100ipm for A4 scanning and up to 104ipm for letter scanning, so users can forward documents easily or keep a digital footprint for records.
